HOME SERVICE CHECKLIST

— presented by Dennis Grigassy, Realtor® - RE/MAX Heritage

A small investment in time and money over the years will help keep your home in top shape.

Here are some suggestions that should help you.

General Maintenance - Oil squeaky doors; Tighten doorknobs; Replace burned-out lights; Clean and repair windows; Touch-up chipped paint; Repair cracked plaster; Repair leaking taps, drains, and toilets.

Spic and Span - Shampoo carpets; Clean washing machine and clothes dryer; Clean furnace; Clean refrigerator, stove, and oven; Clean and freshen bathrooms.

The First Impression - Clean and tidy the entrance; Make sure doorbell functions; Polish door hardware.

Curb Appeal - Cut lawn; Trim shrubs and lawn; Weed and edge flowerbeds and gardens; Pick up any litter; Clear walk and driveway of leaves; Repair gutters and eaves; Touch-up exterior paint.

The Spacious Look - Clear stairs and halls; Remove and store excess furniture; Clear counters and stove; Make closets neat and tidy.

It's a good idea to do the above tasks on an ongoing basis, or at least a couple of times each year. That way things shouldn't get out of hand, either when guests are expected or ... when it becomes time to consider selling.

This list is similar to one I give to prospective sellers to help them stay focused on getting their house ready to sell, and will give it an edge over other homes that are on the market. I hope it is helpful to you.

By the way, please contact a Realtor® (me, I hope) before you undertake any remodeling or room-addition work. I can give you tips on what will and what will not enhance the value of your home when the time comes to consider selling.
